Leadershift 2025: Ontario Conference Master Guide Leadership Convention
December 18, 2025 | Cherrie Anne James | Ontario Conference Master Guide Council
The halls of Crawford East Adventist Academy (CAA) East Campus in Pickering, ON, buzzed with energy on December 14, 2025, as Master Guide leaders from across Ontario gathered under the theme "Leadershift"—a transformative day designed to challenge perspectives and equip leaders for guiding young hearts toward Christ.
The Ontario Conference Master Guide Council (OCMGC) orchestrated an interactive experience that combined creativity with practicality. From the moment attendees arrived, it was clear this would not be a typical sit-and-listen convention. Seasoned leaders shared hard-won wisdom with honesty and humour, creating an atmosphere that said, "This work is too important and too exciting to be boring!"
The day's presentations addressed real issues leaders face in youth ministry. "The Structure of the Master Guide Club" provided an overview of organisational structure and roles, from the AMP director to club directors and support staff. "Discipline and Discipleship" examined the delicate balance between internal and external discipline while cultivating spiritual growth.
"Staff Retention and Appreciation" resonated deeply as leaders discussed creative ways to keep volunteers motivated and valued. The session included a Wall of Appreciation Board where participants posted notes for leaders they admire—a tangible reminder that behind every successful club is a team deserving recognition.
"Creativity and Resources" offered a treasure trove of innovative ideas, demonstrating how to do more with less and use technology to enhance outdoor experiences. "Leaders and Their Mental Health" acknowledged the emotional and spiritual toll of ministry, offering practical strategies for self-care and maintaining a healthy walk with God while serving others. Many expressed gratitude for permission to prioritise wellness without guilt.
"Christian Leaders and Leadership Skills" explored what makes truly great leaders: authenticity, perseverance, and a willingness to grow rather than striving for perfection.
Guest speaker Pastor Edwin Martin, former Director of AMP Club Ministries, brought the day's focus back to the ultimate goal with "Child and Youth Evangelism"—leading young people to Jesus. The session explored age-appropriate approaches to sharing faith and creating spaces where questions are welcomed, reminding everyone that evangelism isn't a program but a lifestyle of loving relationships
Are you passionate about outdoor ministry and about seeing young people discover their potential? The Master Guide ministry needs leaders willing to invest in the next generation—people who recognise that life's most important lessons often unfold around campfires or atop mountain trails.
This is not just about earning honours and campouts. It's about building relationships, modelling Christian character, teaching practical skills, and creating lasting memories during the crucial years when young people are discovering who they are and what they believe.
The leaders who gathered at CAA East are already making a difference, but there is always room for more. Young people are waiting for mentors to invest in them, challenge them, and walk with them on their faith journey.
If "Leadershift" proved anything, it's that this ministry is alive, vibrant, and more relevant than ever. Are you ready to be part of the adventure?
