From Storm to Story: The Birth of A Patchwork of Memories
February 18, 2026 | Jean Stewart | Kendalwood Seventh-day Adventist Church
The Seniors Ministry of Kendalwood Seventh-day Adventist Church is excited to announce the launch of a new book, A Patchwork of Memories: Stories of God’s Faithfulness Through Life’s Seasons, on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 5:30 p.m.
This special book celebrates the faith and life experiences of our seniors. It highlights God’s faithfulness through the years and honours the spiritual legacy they are passing on to future generations.
The idea began in the summer of 2024 at the Seniors’ Picnic at LaSalle Park in Burlington, Ontario. During the picnic, a sudden storm swept through the park—tents were blown over, chairs scattered, and everyone ran for shelter. But just as quickly as it came, the storm passed, and the sun came out again.
In that moment, looking at the seniors—grateful, resilient, and still smiling—I said, “We are going to write a book!” And that is how it began.
All seniors were invited to contribute—whether they were at the picnic or not—by sharing a personal testimony or reflecting on how the Seniors Ministry has impacted their lives. The result is a beautiful three-part collection of stories that remind us of God’s faithfulness in every season of life.
We gratefully acknowledge the seniors who contributed significantly to the production of this book:
- Pastor Errol Lawrence
- Glenda Duncan
- Adrianne Alleyne
- Isabelle Julien
- Alvina Skeete
- Mel Murray
- Norm Howe
- Ladine Mckenzie-Dowe
The following reflection is taken from the Foreword of the book:
The inspiration for this book was born not under clear skies, but in the middle of a storm-a storm that appeared almost supernatural in its suddenness and intensity during a seemingly ordinary seniors' picnic.
Wind whipped through the trees, thunder cracked the air, and rain poured down with such force it felt as though the very heavens had opened. That storm, so sudden and powerful, mirrored the unexpected moments in life which often shape our stories and inspire us to reflect on the journeys we have taken.
This book is a rich collection of memories and impactful moments shared by Kendalwood seniors and other individuals who have weathered life's storms with grace and gratitude. Their experiences and mentorship have profoundly influenced younger generations, including 10-year-old Mila, whose story is included in this remarkable collection.
Their stories illuminate the intricate threads of faith, perseverance, and unwavering trust in God. More than captivating accounts, they offer meaningful insights that will undoubtedly provoke curiosity, admiration, and reflection in every reader.
Everyone is warmly invited to join us and be part of this special book launch celebration.
