The Windsor Seventh-day Adventist Church celebrated its 110th anniversary on October 16–17, 2026, under the theme “Great Is Thy Faithfulness.” The weekend brought together generations of members, former members, and friends for thanksgiving, worship, fellowship, and reflection on God's leading throughout the church's history.
The celebration began on Friday evening, October 16, with a message from Pastor Junior Garcia, who served Windsor from 2013 to 2019. He focused on generations walking with God and challenged the congregation to ensure their children remain in the faith. His wife, Rosmery, and their children sang a song in Spanish. The evening also offered an opportunity to reflect on the church's journey and to remember the pioneers whose faith and service helped establish and strengthen the congregation.
Sabbath, October 17, began with a special Sabbath School program entitled “Faithful Generations,” emphasising the responsibility of passing on the Christian faith and spiritual heritage to future generations. Former Sabbath School superintendents were recognised and presented with gifts in appreciation of their faithful service over the years.
The divine worship service featured congregational singing, prayer, a special musical presentation by the Windsor Church Choir, and greetings from Pastor Anthony Reid, representing the Ontario Conference.
Pioneers and their families were honoured through the installation of a pictorial mural in the church foyer, featuring photographs of families who helped shape the Windsor congregation since 1916. The mural serves as a permanent reminder of the people and generations who contributed to the church's history.
Another significant contribution to preserving this history was a special 96-page commemorative anniversary book, researched and produced by Randy Saunders and presented at the celebration. Featuring historical accounts, personal stories, and photographs spanning the church's 110-year journey, the book preserves the memories and contributions of generations who shaped the Windsor congregation. Copies are available at the church.
The divine service message, entitled “The Purpose-Driven Mission,” was delivered by Pastor Abraham Swamidass, who served the Windsor congregation from 1997 to 2003. He returned to Windsor with his wife, Joan, who had served as principal of the Adventist school during their years in Windsor.
His message emphasised three important responsibilities: remembering God's faithfulness, loving the church and remaining connected to its fellowship, and bringing others to Jesus. He challenged the congregation with a thought-provoking question of eternal significance: “Will anyone be in heaven because of you?”
Following the worship service, a multicultural fellowship lunch brought members and guests together to share food, memories, and meaningful conversations. Nearly 300 people stayed for lunch, with an outdoor tent accommodating the overflow.
The afternoon program continued with expressions of gratitude and recognition of pioneers whose faith, sacrifice, and service helped shape Windsor Church. Families of former members were also acknowledged, strengthening the connection between the congregation's rich history and those who continue its legacy today.
Pastor Patrick Sano, the newly appointed Youth Pastor and Ubuntu Church Pastor, was introduced to the congregation. In his remarks, he emphasised the potential of young people and urged older generations to encourage and support them as they assume responsibility for the church's continuing mission.
Senior Pastor Alex Golovenko concluded the afternoon program by presenting the OneVoice27: Mission for All initiative and its “All Things New” outreach emphasis, inviting the congregation to look beyond its anniversary and renew its commitment to evangelism, discipleship, and church planting. Ontario Conference departmental directors, Pastors Anthony Reid, Andrew King, and Joel Nembhard, then offered a prayer of blessing and dedication for the congregation and its future mission.
The weekend celebration concluded with a 110th Anniversary Concert, featuring local musical talents and congregational praise. The music reflected the multicultural character of Windsor Church, bringing together different cultures and traditions in a shared expression of worship and thanksgiving.
Recordings of the anniversary programs are available on the church’s YouTube channel, @WindsorAdventist.
Throughout the celebration, one message remained central: Although generations have come and gone, God has remained faithful, guiding and sustaining His church through changing times.
The congregation also received a written congratulatory message from Pastor Jakov Bibulović, President of the Ontario Conference, on behalf of the Conference administration. His message recognised the generations of pioneers, pastors, leaders, members, and children whose faith, sacrifices, and service helped establish, nurture, and expand the congregation.
Drawing from Psalm 126:3, “The Lord has done great things for us, and we are glad” (NKJV), the message encouraged the congregation to build upon its spiritual heritage and continue serving the community through faith and practical ministry. Members received these expressions of encouragement with gratitude, praising God for His leading throughout the past 110 years.
The anniversary celebration was made possible through the collective efforts of many dedicated members who generously contributed their time, talents, and resources.
Special appreciation was extended to Randy Saunders, Chair of the Anniversary Committee, for coordinating preparations and producing the commemorative history book; to Dean Saunders for providing audiovisual support; and to Diane McLachlin for coordinating records and proceedings.
Other contributors included Elizabeth Gale, Zak and Esther Sayed, Rita and Lev Lalo, Garset Gayle-Flemmings, Dwayne Rugless, Anne Kukucka, Kavira Mukwe, Malcolm Bhanks, Chris Samonte, Darrin John, Wendell Phipps, and Stepan Golovenko, along with many other dedicated volunteers.
Reflecting on the celebration, Senior Pastor Alex Golovenko expressed his appreciation:
“To God be all the glory! This celebration was a team effort, with many people contributing their time, talents, and resources. I am grateful for everyone who helped us remember our history and renew our commitment to the mission ahead.”
Looking Ahead with Faith
Throughout its 110-year history, Windsor Seventh-day Adventist Church has planted four churches, extending its ministry and influence beyond its own congregation. Looking ahead, the church continues to pray for opportunities to establish more congregations, reach new communities, and share the everlasting gospel.
The anniversary was not simply a celebration of the past but an opportunity to reflect on the responsibility entrusted to the present generation. The pioneers laid a foundation of faith and service; today's members are called to continue that work and prepare the next generation to carry it forward.
As Windsor Church looks to the future, it remains committed to strengthening Christian unity, nurturing children and young people, serving the surrounding community, making disciples, and proclaiming the soon return of Jesus Christ.
The words of the anniversary theme express both gratitude for the past and confidence for the future:
“Great Is Thy Faithfulness!”
FAITH – COMMUNITY – MISSION
God has been faithful. Together, we continue the legacy!
