Under the theme “Built on Faith, Growing in Love,” the Northwest Brampton Seventh-day Adventist Church celebrated its 20th anniversary from October 14-18, 2026. The five-day celebration provided opportunities for worship, reflection, and thanksgiving, marking not only two decades of ministry but also the dedication of the church building to God.
The celebrations began on Wednesday, October 14, with a prayer meeting featuring former church pastor Wallin O’Connor. His message emphasised faithfulness to God and the importance of recognising and using the gifts God has entrusted to each believer for His glory.
On Friday evening, October 16, Dr. Mirthell Mitchell, son of the church’s late founding pastor, Pastor Carlton Mitchell, presented on the message entitled “A Perfect Plan on an Imperfect Planet,” based on Jeremiah 29:10-11. His message encouraged reflection to trust God’s plan and promises, even when the way forward seems uncertain.
Pastor John Scott, Youth, Young Adults, Adventist Christian Fellowship (ACF), and Singles Ministries Director of the Ontario Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, and a former pastor of the Northwest Brampton Church, delivered the keynote message during the Sabbath divine worship service. His sermon, entitled “Too Far to Sink,” was based on Matthew 14:22-27. He encouraged the congregation to keep their eyes on Jesus, “stay in the ship,” persevere through challenges, and continue moving forward in faith.
The service was attended by Dr. Reynold Hazelwood, Superintendent of Schools for the Ontario Conference, along with community representatives Amarjeet Gill, MP for Brampton West, and Regional Councillors Navjit Kaur Brar and Michael Palleschi.
A significant highlight of the anniversary celebration was the dedication of the church building to God, which included a ribbon-cutting ceremony. This milestone reflected God’s faithfulness throughout the congregation’s journey, as well as the commitment, sacrifices, and perseverance of its members. From worshipping in rented facilities to dedicating their own building to God, the congregation’s journey stands as a testimony to God’s goodness and guidance.
The church’s current pastor, Pastor Jermaine Parker, led the dedication service and officiated at the ribbon-cutting ceremony. He was joined by Dr. Reynold Hazelwood, Pastor John Scott, church elders and Sister Dorreth Mitchell, wife of the late Pastor Carlton Mitchell, the church’s founding pastor.
The dedication service concluded with a meaningful symbolic gesture. As the sanctuary lights were turned off, members illuminated the room with their cell phone lights, symbolising their commitment to being a beacon of hope in the community and allowing their light to shine for Christ.
The anniversary celebrations concluded on Sunday, October 18, with a special 20th anniversary banquet. Members and guests gathered to reflect on the church’s journey, celebrate its milestones, and give thanks for God’s continued leading throughout the past two decades.
As the Northwest Brampton Seventh-day Adventist Church reflects on 20 years of ministry, the theme “Built on Faith, Growing in Love” serves as both a celebration of the past and a renewed commitment to the future.
With grateful hearts, the congregation looks forward to continuing God’s work, remaining faithful to His calling, growing in love, and serving Him and the wider community in the years ahead.
